Treasure Hunt: Alfonso X, The Wise


Alfonso X, The Wise Treasure Hunt was the activity which we had to complete. Here is all the basic information about it:

General description about the Treasure Hunt

-          Level: Sixth year of Primary Education, third cycle.

-          Area of knowledge: Cultural, Social and Environmental Knowledge.

-          Age of students: 11-12 years old.

-          Topics and subtopics to be learned in Alfonso X Treasure Hunt:

o       Culture and History about Alfonso X and the Region of Murcia
o       Relevant historical dates of Murcia in relation to Alfonso X (especially for the final question).

-          POI’s:

POI’s are divided in right and incorrect POI’s:

-          The Treasure: The final present to fulfil our hard work was a “true” chest which contained chocolate coins, a “replica” of Alfonso X’s crown and a manuscript of Alfonso X in which he devotes some words to us for having complete his Treasure Hunt.
-          Clues:
o       Initial clue: “The first place, where you have to go, is where Alfonso The X is still sat.
The methodology of the gymkhana was based on QR Codes which contained the next POI where we had to go as well as a clue for the final question. Unfortunately, only one and a half Code remained on its place and, as a result, the great majority of clues were given by the game masters in a direct way.
o       We only got two “physical clues”: they were the numbers 1 and 2 and they correspond to the date which we had to guess in the final question: The day when Alfonso X arrived to Murcia (1-5-1243).

-          The solving process:

o       Following process:

Due to we did not have many clues the Treasure Hunt was mainly based on receive instructions and complete questions in order to get the new instruction. In general features this was the following process:

§         First POI: Alfonso X Sculpture. Task: To take a photo with an unknown person.
§         Second POI: Alfonso X El Sabio Highschool. Task: answer a question. What was more important for Alfonso X el Sabio?
a) Winning back the territory.
b) The culture.
§         Third POI: La Merced University. Task: answer another question.
Which city was founded by Alfonso X , the Wise?
a)    Ciudad Real, in 1255
b)    Murcia, in 1243
§         Fourth POI: Real Academia Alfonso X. Task: To wear a custome.
§         Fifth POI: Santa Clara La Real Convent. Task: To dance “Cantiga de Santa María”.
§         Sixth POI: San Andrés Church. Task: to answer a question. Alfonso X decided the location of…

o       Assessment:
§         POI’s (4 points): There were right 10 POI’s of route and other 10 incorrect POI’s, but also completed. Some of them seemed as filled POI’s (as CAM or Alfonso X Clinic), but other ones not.
§         Clues (1 points, because of the absence of QR Codes which contained the clues): Actually, there were no clues (people removed them) so there were only indications about the place where we had to go.
§         Format used on the clues (4 points): despite there were not too much physical clues due to their absence, videos were well solved and they helped to enrich the frame of the clue.
§         Grammar (5 points): Writing of texts is easy to understand and really pleasant.
§         Spelling (3 points): There were no spelling mistakes.
§         Pictures (3 points): All used images have license or it is quite evidente that they belong to the Group (all images of Alfonso X TH belong to Chalk Drivers).
§         Clues pertinence (4 points): Despite we only found to physical clues, they are related to the topic and, in addition, they are necessary to discover the treasure.
§         TH Content (4 points): We did not think that we finally got attracted to the topic and, in fact, it is really interesting the way in which the Gymkhana/TH is approached.
§         Learning (4 points): Learning about the topic was continuous.
§         Fun (4 points): It was funny.
§         Game master role: They were devoted every minute, they encouraged us, they helped us and they were our company Turing the whole Gymkana/TH.
